A major controversy occurred in Italy during the pandemic regarding multiple episodes of diverse tv series broadcasted on a state TV channel, where women would make up fake rape scenarios for a double purpose; therefore, the accusation is that of belittling an important issue and thus not encouraging women to report it which is already a huge problem in Italy. The idea for the found footage began when I searched for the most commonly watched Italian tv programmes I consumed while growing up and compared those on tv nowadays. Most Italians have grown up watching presenters who were constantly flanked by showgirls for the male gaze that feed the myth of the image woman, typical of television programming of Italy which for years has found a place on TV without causing a stir. Consequently, I decided to make two more videos in response to the found footage to show how it feels for me personally as television is the mirror that reflects the viewer, in this case shows that Italy is still a misogynist and sexist country. Catcalling is still underestimated in Italy because it is thought to be part of seduction; the edit decisions in the video where I record myself wanted to emphasise how the length of the dress is what is mainly underlined when women are sexually assaulted; also, the gesture of putting on and taking off the lipstick repeatedly underlines how it affects the girls' psyche. These themes are also contained in the texts I wrote.
Moved from Italy in 2014, always had a passion for drawing however never pursued an artistic education while there. Once in London, before University, I got a Diploma in Art & Design where I was able to experiment with different types of mediums and media. Currently interested in creating art that revolves around the figure of the woman in a still very sexist society through a combination of video, performance and poetry.
